Last weekend the Junior Cattle Handlers’ Camp was held at the Brunswick showgrounds.
Junior cattle enthusiasts from all over WA took part in the camp and had an opportunity to further their knowledge of preparing and handling cattle for show.
Hayden Green, of Summit Livestock, Roslyn NSW, and renowned Limousin breeder, also attended to judge and mentor the junior cattle handlers.
Patrick Nettleton, three-time camp attendee said the camp was an opportunity for him to learn more about “the amazing industry.”
“I love everything to do with cows and agriculture. It’s just my passion,” he said.
“And when I come here, I get to have fun and do stuff with some amazing people. We’ve got some of the industry’s best here.
“It benefits you in every way-you just improve and improve”.
Patrick’s heifer is Clementine 18.
Clementine is associated with The Black Dog Ride, a charity that promotes mental health.
Each year Unison Limousins provide mating services for Clementine. She is sold as a heifer-in-calf in December by Nutrien Ag with proceeds going to The Black Dog Ride.
Peter Milton of The Black Dog Ride, with young heifer Clementine in tow, visits schools and community and business groups far and wide across WA to promote mental health using Clementine as a conversation starter.
